EQUASHIELD®’s fully encapsulated Syringe Unit prevents syringe plunger contamination caused by hazardous drugs handling. The system is also equipped with a built-in closed pressure equalization system with factory sealed sterile air chamber. The easy-to-use single motion connector remains dry after use as it prevents leaks and drug residuals on outer membrane surfaces. Additionally, the connector is factory welded to the syringe saving valuable setup time compared to time spent on opening two packages and assembling a connector onto an off the shelf syringe. This welded Equashield® Syringe Unit also prevents an opportunity for luer disconnection and spills. Unlike standard syringes, Equashield® can be used safely even beyond its nominal capacity as the encapsulated plunger rod can never be detached from the syringe, preventing the potential for spill.

As open Luer Lock ports expose healthcare workers to leaks, spills and vapor hazards, Equashield® has developed custom Female (Ref: FC-1) and Male (Ref: LL-1) Luer Lock Connectors. These Luer Lock components effortlessly connect to standard luer lock ports to provide a contamination-free closed system protection. The use of luer lock connectors is essential for delivery of IV Push or bolus injection of medication and while connecting two IV tubing segments together, such as the secondary line to a primary line. Any two components are easily locked together by Equashield’s easy-to-use single motion connection system. Upon completion of drug administration, disconnecting is easy by a simply pushing a lever and sliding the components apart.
Syringe to Syringe Adaptor
Connecting and safely transferring medication from syringe to syringe, also known as the QS procedure, is easy with the EQUASHIELD® syringe to syringe adaptor (Ref: LL-1DC). This adaptor has two access ports for Syringe Units at nominal priming volume.
The EQUASHIELD® Vial Adaptor firmly snaps onto any standard vial, providing a safe and contamination-free vial access port for the Syringe Unit. An active guiding mechanism ensures centered spiking of the vial stopper. As part of EQUASHIELD’s connector system, the vial adaptor’s elastomeric membrane serves a dual purpose; it serves as a microbial barrier preventing microbial ingress up to 7 days* and remains drug residual free during 10 repeated connections.

IV TUBING SETS
EQUASHIELD® provides a combination of regular IV tubing sets with integrated EQUASHIELD® closed system components. The use of these combined sets simplifies both the number of steps required and components needed, thereby increasing the overall hospital productivity and saving time. Tubing sets available include:
• Secondary Tubing set (Ref: SA-1S) with standard 20 drops/ml drip chamber, locking clamp and 45” (115 cm) tubing length with EQUASHIELD® Spike Adaptor and a male luer lock with vented cap.
• Spike Tubing short set (Ref: SA-1E) with EQUASHIELD® Spike Adaptor, a clamp and a male luer lock with vented cap.
• Y-Site Tubing (Ref: LL-1Y) with EQUASHIELD® male Luer Lock Adaptor, female luer lock, male luer lock with a vented cap and a clamp.
The EQUASHIELD® Catheter Adaptor is ideal when using a Foley catheter for bladder instillation procedures. This adaptor (Ref: LL-1C) has pre-bonded Equashield® male Luer Lock Adaptor to conical catheter adaptor, saving valuable setup time and preventing opportunity for luer disconnection and spills.
The EQUASHIELD® Spike Adaptor firmly connects between any standard IV bag and a tubing set. The Spike Adaptor enables safe injection of drugs into the IV bag using a Syringe Unit and subsequent administration via any tubing set. Recognizing that there are variations among various IV Bag manufacturers and that no one IV port fits all bags, Equashield® produces two Spike Adaptors: SA-1T for regular ports and SA-1 for bags with larger ports. The SA-1 port design prevents the opportunity of accidental spike disconnection from IV bag reducing an opportunity for leaks and spills.
An additional Spike Adaptor–W (Ref: SA-W) is designed to be used with the Syringe Unit to withdraw diluents, such as normal saline or sterile water, from an IV bag.
The EQUASHIELD® Protective Plug provides an additional layer of protection for Female Luer Connector when connected to an IV bag or onto the Syringe Unit. Once attached it serves as a protective cap and maintains sterility on the connector membrane.
Reconstitution Tubing Set
The EQUASHIELD® Reconstitution Tubing Set is a closed system for batch drug reconstitution of lyophilized powder in vials. Large quantities of vials can be effortlessly reconstituted in one session or during the course of the day. The set (Ref: LL-1R) draws diluent directly from an IV bag into an attached syringe and injects into the drug vial when the plunger is depressed. Once completed, a new vial can be connected and the procedure of reconstitution may be repeated. The Reconstitution Tubing Set reduces the number of components and steps needed to batch produce reconstituted vials. Using Equashield’s innovative air and fluid transfer system, the pressure equalization is maintained throughout the process with hazardous drug vapors expelled into the collection chamber while ensuring that connectors remain dry and Vial Adaptor are contamination free during vial accesses and transfers.
